So...I just watched this again, why does everyone hate this movie with a passion? I've always found this movie incredibly entertaining and it's better than 99% of the shit coming out now. What is the real problem with it? Seriously...It is a fun film.

"Unneeded" is a word that comes to mind when thinking of this. I could go on like I always do,but since I'm feeling awfully lazy today,I feel this review pretty much covers everything: www.joblo.com/arrow/reviews.php?id=188I will add one thing the review didn't cover...Humanoid Aliens were/are a bad idea...on all fronts.

I will add one thing the review didn't cover...Humanoid Aliens were/are a bad idea...on all fronts. I agree there but I dont think the movie is THAT bad. would I buy the dvd? No. Do I watch it when its on tv? Yup. I think the main reason for most of the hate is that the first two film are held in such a high regard.

That review didn't do it for me...at all. Hey, she died, yeah I know but who cares? I don't. They bring people back from the dead all the time.
Though it isn't nearly the best film on the planet, it isn't the worst either. I felt the film was very entertaining for what it was. I don't think the characters were that bad, in fact I didn't mind them at all.
You really don't enjoy this film at all Kefka? I am a huge Alien fan, I might not know all the technical details but I know what I like. I love everyone of the films from the series. But even at its worse, I will stress this film is better than most of this shit that comes out now and as a quadriliogy it owns F13 and ANOES among others. It may be a sci-fi/horror combo, but I pretty much know it is the best Series out there.

That review didn't do it for me...at all. Hey, she died, yeah I know but who cares? I don't. They bring people back from the dead all the time. Yes but they brought her back as an Alien Humanoid... Humanoid Aliens were/are a bad idea...on all fronts. Especially that "newborn" Alien Humanoid in the third act...just looking at that thing annoyed me,nevermind the whole ridiculous "mother/offspring" relationship between it and Alien Ripley... Though it isn't nearly the best film on the planet, it isn't the worst either. Agreed...I can name one movie just off the top of my head thats worse than this...Return of the Living Dead. I felt the film was very entertaining for what it was. I don't think the characters were that bad, in fact I didn't mind them at all. I was too hung up on the stupid characters (the wheelchair guy that you know from the beginning is gonna be one of the survivours just by fact that he's in a wheelchair/Ron Pearlman making a complete ass out of himself by acting like an ape),goofy shit for an Alien movie (Alien Humanoids mostly),and overall cookie cutter feel the movie has. There are points where it feels like a Sci Fi Pictures movie than a true Alien movie. Also this part REALLY bugged me: You really don't enjoy this film at all Kefka? Nope...although I can't say I was ever bored while watching it. I am a huge Alien fan, I might not know all the technical details but I know what I like. As am I and as do I...unfortunatly,this film isn't one of those. I love everyone of the films from the series. But even at its worse, I will stress this film is better than most of this shit that comes out now and as a quadriliogy it owns F13 and ANOES among others. It still owns F13 and ANOES as a trilogy WITHOUT the sore thumb of Resurrection... It may be a sci-fi/horror combo, but I pretty much know it is the best Series out there. I'd say Romero's Dead series is the best...

I don't think the characters were that bad, in fact I didn't mind them at all. I downright didn't like any of the characters except for Michael Wincott's and he's killed off right in the beginning. Visually this did not feel like an Alien film at all. The whole cloning angle is kind of a cool concept but it didn't do it for me. The whole thing feels like a fruity, european version of the Alien universe and that equals to a steaming pile of dogshit. And Alien 3 is a fucking disgrace. Lets kill off the characters that we've come to love and replace them with a bunch of unlikeable fuckwads who have accents. Regressing back to one Alien was stupid too. Not to mention that the Alien design wasn't up to par with the first two. I know I know, it's supposed to be a darker, grittier Alien film than the second one. Blah Blah Blah. They could've went to a metroplolis setting in the 3rd film (and should've, or at least went to the Aliens homeworld)and showed whole families being hosts and other grizzly sights. There are a bunch of different stories that would've have been so much better to see happen than the garbage that Alien 3 is. The first two films should not be associated with the last two for the quality of this series took such a nose dive, the likes that i've never seen before. I've said this so many times that i'm blue in the face. Fox had potentially the greatest saga ever and they dropped the ball. Fuck both of these pieces of shit. FUCK'EM!

Bah! Fuck the lot of you. I guess it will always be a guilty pleasure of mine. As for as Romero's being better...I never got into his series much. NOTLD and that's about it.

And Alien 3 is a fucking disgrace. Lets kill off the characters that we've come to love and replace them with a bunch of unlikeable fuckwads who have accents. Oh boo hoo...I call killing those characters off daring and ballsy...as for unlikeable fuckwads, sure theres plenty of them...but theres also likeable ones like Dillon and Clemens to name a few. Regressing back to one Alien was stupid too. Hows that? For being on a prison planet with absolutly no weapons,it was the perfect thing to do. Not to mention that the Alien design wasn't up to par with the first two. Bullshit. Granted the effects for it were sloppy in a few places, but this design gave the Alien something it didn't have before...Speed...which made it even more dangerous. They could've went to a metroplolis setting in the 3rd film (and should've, or at least went to the Aliens homeworld)and showed whole families being hosts and other grizzly sights. There are a bunch of different stories that would've have been so much better to see happen than the garbage that Alien 3 is. Wow,so part of your basis for hating the movie is because they didn't do what you wanted them to do? I'd like to see all that happen as well, but I'm not gonna fault Alien 3 just because it didn't do that...because with what it does, its a good movie and thats all that counts. The first two films should not be associated with the last two for the quality of this series took such a nose dive, the likes that i've never seen before. I've said this so many times that i'm blue in the face. Fox had potentially the greatest saga ever and they dropped the ball. Fuck both of these pieces of shit. FUCK'EM! And FUCK YOU for lumping a good movie like Alien 3 thats a damn fitting conclusion to the overall story with a piece of shite like Resurrection...

It might've worked if, but like I said before, they didn't replace them with people I liked or cared about. Clemons was decent but Charles Dutton (aka Roc)? His religious spewing character did nothing but annoy me. To each his own. I found that whole element to be a regression of epic proportions. It's like fucking Liv Tyler (Alien,Aliens) and then settling for a pot belly pig to stick your dick into. (alien 3) Great, the Alien is faster. The look of it was shit though. The emphasis on teeth, which is one physical feature that I love my xenomorphs to have, was jettisoned. The look of the thing sucks. I was just giving some examples. I'm not going to spew them all out but there are many different stories I would've liked to see become the 3rd Alien film. I hate the story, characters, Alien, and score of Alien 3. I fucking hate this movie. Whenever I catch a snippet of either film I feel dead inside I'm getting angry right now just thinking about this.

His religious spewing character did nothing but annoy me. Thats funny, cause I could have sworn that he actually kept his religious beliefs and speeches to a minimum...it sure could have been a lot worse, like Sgt. Howie in The Wicker Man. To each his own. I found that whole element to be a regression of epic proportions. It's like fucking Liv Tyler (Alien,Aliens) and then settling for a pot belly pig to stick your dick into. (alien 3) Terrible analogy... Great, the Alien is faster. The look of it was shit though. The emphasis on teeth, which is one physical feature that I love my xenomorphs to have, was jettisoned. The look of the thing sucks. No emphasis on teeth? Did you watch the same movie I did? Cause I saw plenty of emphasis on the Alien's teeth. And how exactly does the look of the Alien suck? Because it resembles a dog? I'm sure you don't need me to tell you that Aliens take on the physical characteristics of their hosts, and I for one was actually tired of seeing Aliens with human characteristics. I wanted something new and fresh...Alien 3 gave that to me in the form of the "Dog Alien" I was just giving some examples. I'm not going to spew them all out but there are many different stories I would've liked to see become the 3rd Alien film. I hate the story, characters, Alien, and score of Alien 3. I fucking hate this movie. So far I'm not really seeing any valid reasons as to why you hate all of that, but whatever...I loved all of it. Whenever I catch a snippet of either film I feel dead inside I'm getting angry right now just thinking about this. I'm getting angry right now reading about how you hate it

They could have also cast Gilbert Gottfried in the part, so what. Things can always be worse. He and his preachy ways annoyed me. Leave sister, I have to have a word with the brothers. HA HA HA.. Shut the fuck up Roc.
Yeah fucking right. That was a great analogy.
Not like in past films. You don't see the difference between a Woodruff Alien and the Aliens in the worthwhile films?
Again, you can't tell the difference between a Woodruff Alien and the ones in the worthwhile films? The dog Alien didn't work for me. Now if they had a hulking gorilla Alien then we'd be talking.
Why is me not liking all of those things not valid enough for you? HA HA HA.. Did I not make it clear how I thought this film was a step backward? I practically listed the reasons. Do you want me to explain how the score suffered from the lame trombone section? I don't feel the need at all to go into that kind of detail with all of the things I hate about this film. It would take too goddamn long and it's not worth it because my own tastes have enough validity for me. LOL
Alien 3 is an abortion. LOL

They could have also cast Gilbert Gottfried in the part, so what. Things can always be worse. He and his preachy ways annoyed me. Leave sister, I have to have a word with the brothers. HA HA HA.. Shut the fuck up Roc. Wow,thats some pretty big nitpicking you're doin there, automatically associating the words "brothers" and "sister" with religion...but I'm feeling generous,so I'll give it to you... So besides that and the speech he gave during Hick's and Newt's cremation, what other moments of extreme religious preaching were there in the movie? Cause all I really saw were speeches about survival in order to motivate the fellow inmate to fight the Alien...and besides,he actually had a legite reason to be religious...afterall,he WAS serving life in prison and thats said to make the most pessimistic person turn to religion. Yeah fucking right. That was a great analogy. Not in this universe it wasn't... Not like in past films. You don't see the difference between a Woodruff Alien and the Aliens in the worthwhile films? Actually,I thought it had more emphasis on the teeth than Alien did...probably because there were more people in the movie for it to kill. "Woodruff" Alien? As in the sweet-smelling plant with small white flowers and whorled leaves? You'll have to explain that one to me... Again, you can't tell the difference between a Woodruff Alien and the ones in the worthwhile films? The dog Alien didn't work for me. Now if they had a hulking gorilla Alien then we'd be talking. So you always want hulking aliens that always stand upright (eventhough the Dog Alien stoof upright quite a few times)? Gotcha... LOL So unless a movie in a series ALWAYS does something new and NEVER goes back to its roots only in a different way (like Alien 3 did),its automatically a step backwards? Yea I agree its a step backwards, but only because Alien and Aliens are better...that doesn't mean Alien 3 outright sucks completely. This may be hard for you to believe, but A LOT of people actually hated Aliens. In the Format and Screenwriting class I took last quarter, both a classmate AND my teacher both expressed their dislike for Aliens. Their argument is that it had huge continuity issues with Ripley being scared and vunerable in the first to all the sudden being a badass heroine in the second. Personally I think their rationale is blown way out of proportion, but whatever. Alien 3 was designed for those that didn't like Aliens. A return to the series's roots...a return to its mysterious aura. Plus they threw in the no weapons idea, which really forced the inmates to think of more elaborate ways of killing the Alien...which leads to some gnarly sequences. Alien 3 is an abortion. LOL Actually that would be Resurrection...

He was in prison, thus I was in prison watching this. The setting and situation doesn't work for me at all. I did not like the fact that the Alien saga went to a prison that's inhabited by characters I don't like. Take me anywhere but this fucking place, fury, whatever it's name is. Alien..Shitty picture but the mouth of the beast is wider and more menacing than the dog one. The teeth have more of a knife like quality as well. Aliens Alien 3 I said earlier that killing off Newt, Hicks, and Bishop could've worked if they had an entirely different story and set of characters than what we got in the third film. I would've been down for something different. It just so happens I hated the direction this one took. It has quality production values but i'll never watch it again. Your classmate and teacher are douchebags and both deserve swift kicks to their knees. They seem to have totally disregarded the whole mother archetype that Ripley represents in Aliens. She needed to become a warrior woman to protect Newt who basically becomes her daughter in the film. It was maternal instinct. I hope you called those morons on that. I get all that but I don't vibe with it at all. One thing that could've saved it is if the Alien was drastically different from the previous films. The dog version didn't feel threatening or new to me.

He was in prison, thus I was in prison watching this. This is probably an exaggeration on my part, but it appears to me that you'd feel like you're in prison if you watched any movie where all of it was in a prison... The setting and situation doesn't work for me at all. I did not like the fact that the Alien saga went to a prison that's inhabited by characters I don't like. Take me anywhere but this fucking place, fury, whatever it's name is. For the claustrophobia feel they were going for,the prison was the best choice. Can't really oust you for not liking the characters cause thats subjective (I can't stand Crash or Return of the Living Dead because of its characters)...but I will say you're overexaggerating Dillion's preachy religious ways. Alien..Shitty picture but the mouth of the beast is wider and more menacing than the dog one. Aliens Alien 3 Damn...nitpicks,nitpicks,and more nitpicks. The Alien in Alien 3 looked menacing enough...you can't tell me you wouldn't shit yourself if you ran into it. Who gives a fuck how wide its mouth is or isn't? Because of that, theres not as much emphasis on the mouth? Wow...nevermind all those shots directly in the Alien's face as it hisses, snarls, and strikes with its double jaw...all showing a damn amount of focus and emphasis on its freaky teeth. I said earlier that killing off Newt, Hicks, and Bishop could've worked if they had an entirely different story and set of characters than what we got in the third film. I would've been down for something different. It just so happens I hated the direction this one took. Whatever...I loved what they did with it. It has quality production values but i'll never watch it again. It had more than that... Actually, she started showing signs of the "badass heroine" when Newt wasn't even the issue...I'm talking about when she forcefully takes control of the car to make an attempt to save the space marine team from being completely slaughtered. I'm not saying Newt didn't further influence it (as you're correct on the mother archtype),but as I said the change started when it had nothing to do with Newt. However what I DID point out was that the change from vunerable and scared woman to badass heroine was gradual and completely believable because she showed signs of the fear she felt in Alien in the beginning of the film. Hence why I said their view was blown out of proportion. It was all about facing her fears head on and growing stronger from it. They still didn't completely buy it,but they saw where I was coming from. I get all that but I don't vibe with it at all. One thing that could've saved it is if the Alien was drastically different from the previous films. The dog version didn't feel threatening or new to me. Yea yea...cause the mouth wasn't wide enough, right? And now that I've really had time to compare all three of those, not only do I say the less wider mouth doesn't negatively affect it,it actually affects it positivly...because it makes the Alien look like what it truly is by its nature...an insect.

Bad Boys is one of my favorite movies.
I don't like the character. LOL
Now this could get us into the realm of ridiculousness. If I saw the Creature From the Black Lagoon in real life i'd probably shit myself. LOL
Not only was it's mouth smaller, it didn't have the knife like teeth that I find cool as hell about these creatures. If you haven't noticed I take my xenomorphs seriously. I have a tattoo that consists of a giant queen alien and a horde of warrior aliens wrapping around her. These monsters are precious to me and I didn't like the dog alien. Just let me not like the fucking thing will ya.LOL
It had a cool opening credit sequence. LOL
That's a strong element to her character for sure. She lost 57 years and had enough of being scared of these bio-mechanical beasts. It was time for her to face her fears and she did. The fact that she even went to LV-426 shows that. Your teacher and classmate still deserve a swift kick to their knees.
They were way more insect like in Aliens. Come on now.
