Minor Spoilers:
Since it's a double feature,I'll review each film seperately:
Planet Terror:This movie completely pounded. Now THATS what I call a zombie movie. All throughout,I had this huge shit eatin grin that you wouldn't have been able to surgically remove. Definatly Rodriguez at his most bombastic. Big props to Freddy RodrÃguez,Michael Biehn, and Rose McGowan who all oozed commanding presence...it was a pleasure to follow these great characters around. The score was great and man oh man was the gore sweet. My only real issues with it was some of the bad writting, but the fact that it was supposed to be a ridiculous movie softened that blow.
4.5/5
Death Proof:This is easily Tarantino's weakest movie. Although I didn't have as much of a problem with it as most of the reviews I've seen of it,I can understand why so many aren't liking it. It doesn't really have any point nor does it really go anywhere. Most of the dialogue scenes, while snazzy and hip in true Tarantino form, don't really serve any purpose to the story other than to be snazzy and hip, which REALLY fucks up the pacing of the entire affair. And man did Tarantino ever drop the ball with Stuntman Mike...he had this cool character that came off as a potential badass in the first half of it,only to turn him into a total wuss in the second story. Thankfully, there are some really gnarly sequences that were able to save it somewhat, like the amazing head on collision at the end of the first half and the entire chase sequence in the last part of the second story.
3.5/5
4/5 Overall...Winner and STILL the best movie of the year...The one,the only...Hot Fuzz...
Favorite trailer:A toss up between Machete and Thanksgiving
Least favorite trailer:Werewolf Women Of The SS
