sounds good to me. the trailer was awesome and the guy really did blaise' over some important things, like: massive gore, brutality, hyper violence, and great tension. thats pretty much more than most horrors these days have, and its pretty much all i need. im sure it will be good. if its not? ill lie and say i liked it anyway.........

Spoilers:
While its been a long time since I've seen the original Hills done by Craven,I do remember enough of it to say that its not that great. Now onto the review.
While this new version of Hills is definatly better,I expected more. Don't get me wrong,it was at times downright brutal and nasty...but lately I find myself wanting more, more, and more when it comes to these violent gore fest movies. I swear if I were to even make a gory horror movie,I'd make something so repulsivly violent and gory that it would deeply offend and disgust the MPAA,maybe even to the point where they would refuse to give it an R rating no matter how much I cut or make it so the entire movie is ruined in an R cut form...but I'm getting off topic.
There was also some stuff that I never approved of from the original Hills that actually carried over into the remake...I'm talking about Bobby's reluctance to tell the family what was going on...and also the sudden abrupt ending. What this version DID improve is having the family actually be FORCED into an accident rather than them losing control of the car when they try to miss running over an animal, and the fact that the mutants really LOOKED LIKE mutants rather than some weird desert tribe (they also didn't ham it up in front of the camera as much).
Another thing that bothered me is Doug's apparent acceptance of a crater full of vehicles with brand new products in them...wouldn't any rational person find that just a LITTLE suspicious? Finally while the trap with the trailer blowing up was a nice way to gain revenge for Bob's death,it was rather counterproductive on their part.
I know this is a movie with a message about resorting to violence in extreme situations...but I don't care. This AND the original to me aren't that type of movie...The original because its too campy and ballless, and this film because its just plain visceral fun...I can overlook a lot of the cliches because of this because the film is basically a modern day old school late 70s/early 80s B horror film that you might find at a low key dank small time videostore (the one I went to growing up was called Video Reserve). Thats pretty much all Aja was going for,I could tell that by the look of a couple of the posters (axe on the bench and guy with axe watching trailer from the cliff).
Overall I enjoyed it,but was underwhelmed by some of it...I'm giving it a 4,but a LOW 4
4/5

saw it today myself and i must say i quite liked it. it improved on the original a great deal ( i dislike the original, and as i think about it i cant think of one wes craven movie i do like). as far as purely mindless slasher films go, this one again (like High Tension) takes the genre a bit farther than it has been. while there is really nothing spectacular about this movie, it is a damn fun film with everything i ask for in a horror. there is also a good deal of gore, great tension building, and some very hyper-violent scenes that will make a normal person go "holy fucking shit man that was fucked up".
on a whole, better than most remakes we have seen in the genre, and a damn fine stand alone film, far better than most in the genre these days, and a great follow up to High Tension. Aja shows he is a damn fine director yet again.
i go 4/5, but a mid 4, like 4.59876453729/5
edit: i must add, glasses takes the cake as the biggest pussy ever in horror movies. the guy's wife is dead, kid stolen, yada yada, and yet he takes forever to finally grow enough nuts to actually go the fuck off like he should have from the moment he saw his dead wife. what a pussy he was.
but the axe twirl was pretty damn cool.

Maybe I'm reading it wrong, but I wouldn't call High Tension a mindless slasher...it certainly starts out that way,but sure doesn't end that way...
I don't think Hills is a slasher movie either...I consider it exploitation...for a few reasons...

(same with HT ) the music, the griity cinematography, the acting, etc. all were a cut above, and the story had a more "real" feeling to it in Aja's rendering. i was just using "slasher" to convey a generic idea about how most horrors fall very short and are simply repetitive rehashes of the same old shit. while hills is a remake, it elevated the genre with some of the little things that make a good move better.

I really wanna see this, I enjoyed the original so I will have to check this out, probably won't be until DVD though.
Is there at least a cameo by the famous Berryman guy though?
He is like The Hills trademark.

Sad news, it came in fucking third place over the weekend. Even the Shaggy Dog beat it! Fuck it man. High Tension bombed and that was a Grade A flick. I think some people may have had no idea what this movie was about. When I went to the theatre...there was this older guy with his wife and when it was over he said "I thought it wouldn't be this bad. It's called the Hills Have Eyes, I thought it was going to be something different." Then when I scrambled to round people up to go everyone said "What is it about?" Even though they had seen the previews. My theatre wasn't packed at all though. What about you guys?

I absolutely loved The Hills Have Eyes remake....As Kefka was saying, the abrupt ending was a little much, and they could have elaborated on the ordeal, but aside from a few minor screw ups, the film was one of the best horror movies I've seen in a while
