Well I'll be damned...so Argento IS capable of throughly good writting at least on a once in awhile basis.
The one thing that has really bothered me about every Argento film I've seen is the overwhelming amount of bad writting...so much bad writting that if most other normal films had them,I'd declare them pieces of shit. If it wasn't for the beyond excellent directing, cinematography, gore, and soundtrack,I'd pretty much deem Argento as an overrated hack.
However with Tenebre its different. I've finally seen an Argento film that covers all the bases...it has all the above formentioned amazing production values AND a damn good written plot. Thats not to say there isn't ANY bad writting,as there are a few little sniplets (like why leave your bag at the airport counter where somebody could steal it just to answer a phone several feet away? Or why take off your shirt when you hear a strange noise?),but they are so few in numbers than any other Argento flick I've seen.
Another thing that bugged me about Argento films, that goes hand in hand with the bad writting,is who he eventually reveals as the killer in his movies. Here however he pulls a clever trick on the viewer that leads to a damn good ending.
Consider this my new favorite Argento film.
4.5/5

Argento is fun! I've only seen a few, but I find I love them all in one way or another. I still need to watch my copy of the Church, but I heard it isn't that great anyway.
But I am looking forward to Tenebre...if I can ever get my fucking hands on it!

Don't get me wrong,I very much enjoy all the other Argento movies I've seen other than Tenebre. I even enjoy Suspiria, which is my least favorite,to an extent.
I also got Opera and will be watching it in a few hours...

I love argento, and out of all his films.. tenebre is my hands down favourite.
Yeah, i'll admit as with alot of italian horror sometimes the writing can be lacking. Especially with his more supernatural films.. but for me that's easy to be overlooked when weighed against, the tremendous atomosphere, stylish kills, well executed direction, amazing cinematography and generally killer soundtracks.
Besides, i've always found the storylines for his giallo's to be compelling to the senses.. stimulating to my mind.. and in the end always leaving me satisfied yet wanting for more.. then again i'm a sucker for a good and often even bad giallo.

I'm sure you'll dig it, the cheesy metal music doesn't fit as well as in phenomena.. and the lack luster (atleast in comparison to much of the films earlier scenes) ending's a tad predictable but it's a extremely fun watch. At least in my book.
