Heres what I don't get...it's pretty much established fact that most people hate part 2...it turns out that the reason why they hate part 2 is because it ridiculously amplifies the style of humour found in the original,which was already pretty ridiculous already...and if you already liked it at it's ridiculous level,why wouldn't you like it when it's even more ridiculous? That was the point,right? Ridiculous humour?
Oh but I'm sure somebody will pipe in with something like "What are you talking about?! The humour styles are NOTHING alike!! Return of the Living Dead part 2 is more oriented towards children!! You now have no reasons for hating the original!!!" I guess you're right...I mean,who honestly could have seen that much of a sizemic shift in tone coming after O'Bannon named 2 of his main characters in the original after 2 well known characters in a little CHILDREN'S show called Sesame Street? Wait a second...did I just blow a great big gaping hole in that argument? Sorry about that fans,I tend to do that sometimes...
Again,ridiculous amplification of the humour found in the original...and if liking the already ridiculous humour was the point of what made the original so good,then why wouldn't the second one be just as loved? I think it'd just be easier for you all to admit that you all like a terrible shitburger of a movie...

I was watching TCM Underground last night and they had this segment after Faster Pussycat ended where certain film makers and movie stars talked about what makes a film a cult classic while playing scenes of the movies they plan to show on Underground.
Sid Haig came on and talked about certain movies becoming cult classics due to having original ideas. He backed this up by saying "the idea of corpses rising out of the ground and feasting on brains is such an original idea blah blah blah" all while small clips of Night of the Living Dead were playing!
See,this is the kind of the stupid bullshit I've been talking about when it comes to Return's use of zombies being interpreted as THE mainstream zombie mythos,thus undermining everything the very fucking movie they're supposed to be praising stands for. And whats worse is that for every good thing Return has,which are so very few that it's almost not worth mentioning,Night has 70 better things going for it. I was so pissed that I damn near threw something at my TV monitor.
My offer has now been updated...destroy the master print AND every known copy of this piece of shit,and you'll have everything I own...

Actually,my grasp on grammar and punctuation is excellent...it just doesn't appear that way online because I don't care enough to meticulously check my spelling and grammar nor do I get on others about their grammatically incorrect typings like an anal retentive nazi. I'm not writting some award winning novel,a doctoral thesis,or a professional resume when I post on messageboards or engage in casual conversation via IMs or email,so I'll spell certain words and use certain punctuation marks however I want...
I swear fans of Return are even more annoying and condescending asswipes than Beatles fans...

You just proved the EXACT point I've been making from the start,only with Return part 2...at least one of you fans isn't a complete contradictory dilusional assbag,although your taste is still shitty.
People universally spit on Return parts 2,4,and 5 for being awful,but what they don't seem to comprehend is that they're all essentially THE SAME FUCKING THING as the original...they all take the ridiculous concepts and humour from the original and beef them up to utterly absurd levels,which is a feat in itself seeing as how the original was pretty fucking absurd to begin with...so I'm supposed to buy that the original is at a low enough level of absurdity that it's good?
No...not gonna happen...absurd is absurd,no matter the level...if people like Return for its absurdity (assuming they actually do seeing as how most Return fans can't seem to make up their minds whether or not the movie should be taken seriously or not),then why wouldn't they like the others for taking that same absurdity to an even more over the top level? I mean,the fact that the original is already over the top is the very reason why it's loved and revered to the point of blind and dilusional devotion,isn't it? Oh wait,I forgot...the film apparently also has profound social commentary in it too,right?

I think I've waited long enough to comment about this...  That looks pretty damn familiar...now where have I seen that before? Oh wait!  Wow...even with a fucking absurd mythology all its own thats seems to be so popular (because people are JUST THAT stupid) that it has taken over the average mainstream interpretation of the zombie,it STILL has to latch onto and mooch off of a vastly superior movie...tell ya the truth though,part of me kinda admires the mocking arrogance of the people behind that...it's like they know theres this small sect of serious zombie fans that they believe are inferior for not swallowing Return's obnoxous mythology,bullshit leaching of NOTLD,putrid comedy,and murder inducing annoying characters...so just to add gas on the fire,they decide on that cover. But then,another way of looking at it is admission of suckage on their part,with yet another way of looking at it being that the movie's incredibly idiotic and contradictory fans finally getting duped by the movie they hold so dear as an underserved cornerstone of the horror genre...yea,thats a much better and accurate (quite simply,because it is) perspective to view it in... |
