Spoilers
Negative:
-A hospital IN a subway system? You're joking right?
-If you're gonna make an attempt at backstory, either come big or stay on the fucking porch. None of this "hint hint,no overall explaination" bullshit...not for a simple textbook slasher film like this.
-I'm glad George buys the farm cause not only was he a pussy (boo hoo,I can't swim!) but a damn idiot too...Seriously,how the hell do you know somebody is dead just by shaking their foot? And that fit of breaking the windows and yelling for the killer to come and get you...yea REAL smart dipshit.
-Guy and the security guard...two textbook pricks who,to quote Arrow in the Head,"had the word 'victim' written on their forehead."
-The killer is shown way too much during the second half...this isn't helped by the fact that the killer is a little bitch that screams too much.
-There is absolutly no rhyme or reason to the killer and what he does. Some of his victims he kills and others he kidnaps and occationally pokes. Don't even get me started on that "moment" near the end with Kate.
-The killer stops his persuit of Kate and George to go do something else? What he does ends up being the best sequence of the entire movie, but that doesn't excuse the fact that its completely stupid.
-Just when it looks like the killer is about to get his,he is suddenly able to talk?!
-If the subway stations are closed, how and why the hell are there still trains running? Its hinted that the killer may be driving them...I find that extremely hard to believe.
-Kate is awfully sympathetic towards somebody who tried to rape her.
-The killer leaving one of the gates open for Kate to escape...nice work,STUPID!
Positive:
-Franka Potente and her sexy yellow dress.
-Fast paced
-The film's first half is pretty excellently directed with lots of mystery surrounding the identity of the killer/entity and a nice play on claustrophobia with being locked in a subway.
-Pretty good soundtrack
-Nice gore
-The surgery sequence (what the killer stops his presuit of Kate and George to do)...works on multiple levels. Not only is it disturbing (with the girl begging and pleading for her life only to be violated alive),but pretty damn funny too (one example being the killer going through the complete motions of washing his hands before surgery dispite no water coming out of the facet among other things).
-The way the killer finally dies is pretty rad
-The ending is kinda funny
Conclusion:
For the most part its badly written, flawed, and by the numbers. However, there is enough good in it to make it digestable and worthy of a viewing. Its up to you where you stand with the film from there. Me? Its already been chucked and I'm movin on to better things.
3/5
