What can I say? I'm a glutton for punishment. I went into this, with all the bad press its been getting, looking for a "so bad its good" movie...Boy,it even sucked horribly with lower than low expectations...Whoever wrote this shit should be made to work at McDonalds for life.
-How can the movie be a prequel AND a sequel to Day of the Dead if its a stand alone story NOT set in Romero's zombie epidemic world?
-95% of the main character's (Isaac) voice over narration is fucking useless and contributes absolutly nothing.
-How did Isaac know that opening the thermus that the black guy found was a bad idea? HE even said "I don't know" when asked why he thought it wasn't a good idea.
-The acting is pretty hideous...it either ranges from dry as Melba Toast underacting to ridiculously obvious overacting...you can forget about a happy medium. You should have seen the random spastic fit Dr.Donwynn goes into...but seriously, who the fuck directed this? A mime could have done a better job...
-Plenty of stupid dialogue...my favorite exchange being:
Dr.Donwynn:"They did not break the rules."
Dr.Heller:"We'll let science decide."
-The "virus" and its effects are laddened with some of the deepest plotholes and inconsistencies I've ever seen. Why does the virus spread FASTER on somebody thats bitten rather than somebody that is exposed to the virus directly? How is it that some zombies can run and others have to slowly shuffle? How are some able to talk and others can't? Why is it that the black guy gets warts when exposed to the virus and all the others just have peeling skin? Because he found the thermus with the virus in it? How is everything seemingly hunky dory the next day with no peeling skin and the warts on the black guy are gone? There was a "master zombie mind conrtol" subplot hinted at that litterally disappears...what happened to it? How does injuries sustained by one of the 6 people exposed to the virus also get sustained to the other 5? How exactly did the virus make Emma pregnant and why did her stomach only get bigger and show physical signs of pregnancy only when the "baby" was about to come out? How is it that 3 of the 6 people that were first exposed to the virus are able to control their cravings for human flesh when the other three had turned into full blown talking zombies? How the fuck did the virus get transmitted to somebody via a punch to the face without any cuts or blood involved?
-How does Dr.Heller know about the virus? He knew the exact area in which the virus was picked up as if he knew the thermus was there...and seeing as how the thermus was the only known possibility that could have caused the virus, why and how was the thermus still there in the first place? Why does Dr.Heller hang up the phone when he calls an army general to tell him about the virus to? Because he wants to "let things play out"...Right...
-What the hell happened to the body of the shot guard who was guarding the quarantined hallway? It litterally disappeared,I shit you not...
-Why the crap did Emma's best friend randomly try to shoot her when she runs into Issac's arms?
-One of the orderlys gets killed by being pushed by the force of a door opening and hitting the back of their head against a wall...riiiiiiiiight...
-Very near the end, there is a shot of a zombie on top of somebody biting them...except you can litterally see the zombie's teeth pressed up against the person's neck rather than biting down onto it...
-Why in the hell was a news crew right on the fucking scene filming zombies shuffling right towards them only a few feet away?
Anything good? 2 things...
-The gore
-A nice "snuff film" like first person POV shot of news reporters getting overtaken by zombies near the end.
Its amazing to me that this movie actually takes itself super seriously when its so blatently awful...NOBODY in their right mind would make something this bad and actually think it has any value at all.
In conclusion,if there was a videogame that was based on/about bad movies,Day of the Dead 2 Contagium would be one of the major later level boss fights...a frustratingly difficult old school NES boss fight at that...Seriously,for your own well being, avoid this piece of shit...unless you WANT to go through an hour and a half of pure torture...
